Support for international students

We pride ourselves on our international, culturally diverse community and the values and variety our international students bring with them. Our dedicated International Students' Office gives guidance to all our international students and is happy to arrange additional support for those who may need a little extra help.

Should you need to improve your English language skills, our dedicated English language tutors can offer you individually-tailored support and assistance before or during study. We are also offering free Mandarin classes to current students as part of a UK-wide commitment to facilitate better ties with emerging economies like China. Talk to the International Students' Office to find out more.

Before you arrive in the UK we will provide you with advice about travel arrangements, accommodation, immigration and visas, and also a pre-departure packing list. If you are not a British Citizen or a citizen of one of the European Economic Area (EEA) countries, you may need an entry clearance certificate, called a visa, before you travel to the UK. You should check whether you require a visa to study in the UK. Obtaining a visa can be quite a long process so we advise you to apply as soon as you have accepted your offer of a place.

When you arrive in the UK we will arrange an orientation session before you start your programme which will cover matters such as: customs and culture in the UK; introduction to London; health & safety; transport; setting up a bank account; how we teach; how to make the most of your studies; what to see in the UK.

While you are here you can choose from a large number of social clubs and sports societies which are the perfect way to settle in. We arrange special events for international students, so that they can meet fellow students, experience British customs and visit places of interest. You can also keep in touch with people via the BPP online community on Facebook.

Healthcare: the UK has a free National Health Service (NHS). If you are studying full-time and have permission to be in the UK as a student for longer than 6 months, you are entitled to use it. If you are not entitled to NHS treatment, you should take out a medical insurance policy. To receive any kind of treatment through the NHS, you must be registered with a General Practitioner (GP). Ask at your local GP's surgery or health centre as soon as possible after arriving in the UK and acquiring a permanent address. For fast access to health care advice and services, call NHS Direct on 0845 4647. If it is an emergency, go to your nearest hospital Accident + Emergency department or phone 999 for an ambulance.

After your studies we will be here to help with your future plans. If you intend to remain in the UK, we can assist you with your visa extension and advise you on how to go on to study another programme at BPP. If you are going back home, we hope you will join our fast-growing alumni network which already spans the world. And please remember that our specialist Careers Service is available free of charge to current students and for a year after graduation.
