BPP welcomes students from a wide variety of academic and professional backgrounds and accepts a broad range of International Qualifications as long as they are equivalent to UK qualifications. You can also find further information on non-UK qualifications at the National Recognition Information Centre or UK Naric.

I am an international student can I apply for a part-time course at BPP?

If you are a student from outside the European Union it will not normally be possible to study part-time in the UK because of the difficulties of gaining a visa, unless you have already obtained a leave to remain which allows you to study. In order to get visa/entry clearance into the UK as a student, you have to enrol on a full-time course. For further details please contact the UK Border Agency. But you may be able to study by distance learning which will overcome the need for visa.

Visas & Immigration:

Do I need a visa (entry clearance) before I come to the UK?

If you come from a "visa national" country, you will need a General Student Visa to study in the UK. For more information, please visit out Visas & Immigration page.

How will BPP help me with my visa?

If you have obtained an unconditional offer from BPP, we will assign you a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) in order to sponsor your student visa. The International Students' Office will also assist you with information and advice of student visa application.

I have applied for a student visa but have been declined, what should I do?

If you are refused a student visa, the entry clearance officer will give you a written notice clearly explaining the decision, which will also tell you if you have the right of appeal. If you are refused or if there is a delay in the visa process, please contact the International Students' Office immediately for guidance, sending a copy of the refusal notice if possible.

Application

In addition to the application form, do I need to provide any other documents to support my application?

Initially you are not required to provide any supporting documents apart from completing application form. However, if you can provide certain supporting documents regarding your previous education and/or work experience, it will help our Admissions better understand your academic and professional background which will accelerate the assessment of your application. You can submit these documents by post, email or fax along with your application form or afterwards.

I have a conditional offer but have not met the conditions, what should I do?

If you do not meet the conditions of your offer letter, please contact Admissions as soon as possible with full details of your qualifications. It is possible that you may still be accepted into the college, however this can only be decided by the relevant programme leader.

Whilst In The UK

What study support is available? Can I get help with my English and study skills while I am studying at BPP?

At registration you will be assigned a personal tutor who will be your first point of contact throughout your time at BPP. Your personal tutor is there to offer advice and assistance and will help you to deal with academic and personal difficulties and ensure, where appropriate, that any problems are known to the programme management. Our dedicated English language tutors can offer you individually-tailored support and assistance before or during study. In addition, there are also a variety of resources available on our virtual learning environment that you can access anytime to help you develop your learning and study skills.

Can I contact current students from my home country who are studying at BPP?

Yes you can. There are around 400 international students from 70 countries in BPP. The International Students' Office will try to put you in touch with current students. You will have the opportunity to talk to current students at BPP about our institution, life in London and the UK. You can find out what student life is really like in the UK, what experiences your mentor has had and what they enjoy doing here.

Can I visit other counties outside the UK during my stay in the UK?

You certainly can, but you may need to apply for a visa. For example, visitors to countries in the European Union require a Schengen visa. You will have to make an appointment with the relevant Embassy to secure a visa yourself and full details can be found on the embassy's website of the country concerned. Students will require a supporting letter from the university to verify their student status, which can be arranged by the International Student Office. Please note that most embassies require you to make an appointment and the waiting time for such appointments can be quite long at busy times such as Christmas and Easter.

How much will the living costs be?

The cost of living varies between different regions of the UK; London, for example, is more expensive than average and costs may also be high in other major UK cities. As suggested by the British Council, the average students need around £600 a month (£800 a month in London and the south east of England) to cover accommodation, food, clothes and basic needs. We also recommend an additional £300 as initial one-off costs when you first arriving the UK. Therefore we suggest your living expenses for one year is between £8,000 and £9,000.

How do I open a bank account?

If possible, you should open an account with a multi-national bank in your home country before you leave for the UK. This should then enable you to use that bank's ATMs in the UK, but please check with the bank first. It is also a good idea to obtain a credit card from home as a contingency.

It is advisable to open a bank account as soon as you have registered at the college in order to help manage your finances. You will need your passport and a "bank" letter from the Registry confirming that you have enrolled and identifying your address in the UK. Please allow several days for a letter to be produced, particularly at the beginning of the semester and other busy times of the year.

To receive any kind of treatment through the NHS, you must be registered with a doctor (General Practitioner - GP), which simply means going to your local GP surgery putting your name on the list of patients, and it does not cost anything. You will not have to pay for hospital treatment, but you may have to pay for some dental treatment and a standard charge for medicines prescribed by a doctor.
